Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to extend, retract and maintain conveyor componentry
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures for conveyor componentry, and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements prior to proceeding
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Access, read and apply safety information and procedures throughout the work
   • Obtain, transport and prepare materials and resources required for the work
   • Prepare the worksite
2. Install and retract belt conveyor componentry
   • Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, during, and on completion of the work activity
   • Establish and monitor safe work environment throughout the job
   • Isolate and connect auxiliary componentry
   • Extend/retract belt conveyor componentry in accordance with manufacturer and/or site requirements and legislative regulations
   • Inspect conveyor for line and level and test to ensure functionality, safety and compliance with specifications
   • Recover conveyor equipment systematically, with minimal loss and damage to the recovered equipment
   • Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations
3. Carry out conveyor maintenance
   • Conduct visual and physical inspections and fault finding processes
   • Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks
   • Carry out minor maintenance
   • Provide operator support during preparation for and conduct of major maintenance tasks
   • Maintain written records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of extension, retraction and maintenance of conveyor componentry including:

complying with site and manufacturer requirements

isolation, tagging and restoration of tagging

maintaining written equipment records

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the extension, retraction and maintenance of conveyor componentry that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicate and coordinate activities with others

participate in shift briefing

clearly and concisely communicating and interpreting handover details

demonstrates completion of the extension, retraction and maintenance of conveyor componentry that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

using conveyor assembly procedure to extend conveyor

using conveyor assembly procedure to retract conveyor

identifying, using and maintaining conveyor componentry
